Description
Two original albumen photographs, circa 1890, taken by Northwestern Photo Co. of Chadron, Nebraska, whose company is well known for documenting the aftermath of the Wounded Knee massacre. One of the photos shows a cavalry outfit of Cheyenne scouts, recruited by the U.S. military to fight their enemy the Lakota Sioux. The Cheyenne arrived at Pine Ridge, South Dakota in late November, 1891 and were assigned to patrol the perimeter to prevent the Ghost Dancers from escaping. The second photo, on the verso, shows two Lakota Sioux women on horseback, teepee homes in the distance. Photos measure 7" x 4.25", affixed to an album mat measuring 10" x 7". Some buckling and staining to mat. Photos are in very good condition, with bold contrast.We accept PayPal and Credit cards via Paypal.
