Up for auction we have TWO silver 20 cent pieces from Newfoundland. These coins are sterling each with a weight of 4.71 grams and a diameter of 23.19 mm. I don’t know how to grade these but the previous owner graded one as VF and the other as F - VF. Hopefully you can grade it yourself via the photos and description.
The
FIRST
is 1882 H with a mintage of a mere 100,000.
The obverse of the coin has nice eye appeal
with good detail of the hair and braid. U
nder magnification only a few light
marks were noted. One above the "A" and "N", one on the chin and one on the neck.
The reverse of the coin has nice detail with several light marks noted under magnification. One after the “0”, one above the "1" and three under the “N”.
The
SECOND
coin is 1900
with a mintage of 125,000.
The obverse of the coin is
worn but with
good detail of the hair and braid. U
nder magnification many
marks were noted. One on the neck, one in the field behind the neck, one on the cheek, one on the forehead and one on the nose.
The reverse of the coin has nice detail and nice eye appeal with a light gray toning in the background. Under magnification only one mark seen in front and one behind the "9". However, both of the coins look much better than they sound and will make a great addition to your collection. I believe these coins traveled in bags and thus it is extremely hard to find them without marks, especially on the large surface areas. Please e-mail me with any questions you might have.
