    Red Cloud, 1883 // By Frank A. Bowman
    Offered is a rare and important original oversize albumen photograph of Oglala Lakota Chief Red Cloud. Taken by Frank A. Bowman at his studio in New Haven, Connecticut on January 22, 1883. The photograph is 10" x 13" and is mounted to thin grey board (size is 10-5/16" x 13-1/4" overall).
    Excellent antique condition with a small patch of chipping at the bottom edge of the photo and a light 2" emulsion crack at the upper right border. Scattered light stains on the photo surface. Small areas of Red Cloud's pupils have been darkened with ink, likely done by Frank A. Bowman. Please see all scans with the listing for complete indication of condition. Note the first photo included in the listing is a scan, and the others are camera photos. The last photo shows pages from Frank H. Goodyear's Red Cloud: Photographs of a Lakota Chief. The offered photograph appears to be uncatalogued as it does not appear in Goodyear's book, but it is without a doubt from Frank A. Bowman's 1883 session with Red Cloud.
