Original photograph of Yupik Eskimo Grave Platforms from western Alaska. S. Hall Young was the photographer. Location unknown. You can see some of the deceased man's favorite items: his Winchester, a steel trap, etc.
Came with other photos from 1903.
Creases, corner crease, and stains. About 5 X 7 inches. Poor condition as can be seen.
Very rare photograph as this is NOT a commercial photograph.
This item is from S. Hall Young's personal collection, a part of which I acquired from a relative of S. Hall Young's many years ago. S. Hall Young came to Wrangell Alaska on July 10, 1878 and stayed for 10 years. After spending the next 9 years in the lower 48, he returned to Alaska in 1897 for 13 more years, traveling to many areas of Alaska as a missionary.
