As I'm sure you're aware by now, Garmin does not support the GPSMAP 196 or 295 any longer. That includes both hardware as well as software; so it is no longer possible for the end user to update the aviation database or the operating system anymore. We still maintain both the hardware and the software to keep these units up to date and we offer our customers an update service for their out of date GPS.
This is NOT the GPS itself.
You are purchasing our GPS update service.
Here's what we will do for one flat fee:
♦ We will update your unit's operating system software to the most current version.
♦ We will update your unit's aviation database (and obstacle database for the 196) to the most current cycle.
Current effective date:
September 09, 2021 to October 07, 2021

Note:
This is the entire United States in one update loaded onto your GPS (the way it used to be) and is not broken up into Eastern, Western, Northern or Southern United States.
♦ We will do the date correction
to reflect the correct current date which assures that the unit will load the correct ephemeris data and acquire the satellites correctly.

NOTE:
I can put any available worldwide database you need in your GPS. Please let me know if you live in Alaska as it is now a different database than the previous U.S. database.
Once you make the purchase for 99 cents, we will contact you within 12 hours through the eBay message system to ascertain exactly what your GPS needs and give you instructions on how to send us your GPS. You simply mail us the GPS receiver, minus any and all accessories. (Please do not send any cables, batteries or antennas) Once We receive it, there is a 24 hour turnaround time. We will then send the unit back to you via First Class bubble mailer or Priority Mail with tracking information. Additional note: If you have a GPSMAP that needs to be repaired or needs to have the date and time corrected, contact me and I can update your existing unit or possibly repair it. I have spare parts for these GPSMAP's and have been working with them for many years.
