Description
This is an exceptional survivor of early 20th century Parisian high fashion around C.1910 that was released from the original family after 100 years. It features a large and gorgeous hand carved wooden handle of a bulldog, is 30” long with black silk, glass eyes, badger fur collar, and a textured red leather collar with brass buckle and studs. The handle measures a large 5”T x 3”W x 3”D and has an exotic wooden stem and elaborately plaited black silk cord. The slide locking opening mechanism works well there is just some finish wear to the wooden pole from use. The crown tip is also wood and stamped inside in the umbrella in white ink is “DU LOUVRE PARIS 5” which could be the department store Les Grands Magasins Du Louvre which was in business from 1855-1974. The silk is fragile and splitting so I have not opened it all the way. One of the frame tips is missing so the fabric is not fully anchored there and there is one small hole near the rim. The dog head handle is in amazing condition including the fur, collar and buckle. I'm guessing due to the size of the handle this may have been a gentleman's umbrella. Overall this umbrella is in wonderful condition for it’s age please see all photos.
