An antique daguerreotype picture of a culturally assimilated Native American Indian Lady with Flowers wearing gold jewelry. So very rare to find this style of a daguerreotype picture in today's markets. Sometimes these daguerreotype pictures were enhanced with real gold. We have not tested this picture and are unable to authenticate that there is gold in this picture. This picture was produced because of the following ideas that was common place in this era. The United States at one time was allotting tribal lands in severalty to individuals, was seen as a way to create individual homesteads for Native Americans. Land allotments were made in exchange for Native Americans becoming US citizens and giving up some forms of tribal self-government and institutions. Americanization policies were based on the idea that when indigenous people learned United States American customs and values, they would be able to merge tribal traditions with American culture and peacefully join the majority of the society. 3.25 by 3.75 inches overall.
