Description
Incredible Antique Imperial Cabinet Card Photograph of Eight Southern Ute Native Americans, Including Chief Ignacio & Chief Severo with Catholic Priest. This cabinet card photo is in good condition for its age with light scratches, one small curved line of paper loss at the lower right corner, the mount has pin holes in the corners & corner wear. The sepia photo is crisp & clear. I have had this photo in my personal collection for about 35 years. It is not signed by the photographer & I don't know the occasion that brought this group together. The photo measures 9" x 7 1/2" on a dark grey mount that is 10" x 8". Someone wrote their name on the back "Elvin T. Cobb" and there is some writing in pencil that is very hard to read. I can make out "Catholic priest" and "Chief Ignacio". A small 3" x 4" piece of paper came with the photograph that identifies six of the people in the photo, it's written in Cobb's handwriting. The paper says "Names furnished by Bob Richards. 1. Precito, 2. Frost, 3. Rabbit Samson, 4. Robert Richard, 5. Severo, 6. Ignacio". The image was taken in a studio with a theater-like curtain behind the Utes. Chief Ignacio (1828-1913) is on the left & Chief Severo (around 1844-1913) is on the right, seated in the front row on either side of the Catholic priest. There's six amazing looking Ute Indians standing behind the Ute chiefs & priest. In the lower left corner there's a very large Anasazi pottery olla. It's an incredible photograph for any Native American image collector. Don't miss out on this important piece of Southern Ute history, it's sure to please any Native American collector.
