Description
This is an original 1966 427 engine block that was used exclusively in 66 Corvettes and Impalas. The casting number is 3869942. The casting date is I 20 5 which decodes as September 20th, 1965. Yes, this is an extremely early 66 427 block. This is the 4 bolt main version used exclusively on 425HP and 450HP models. This block also has the original stamping on the front pad as shown. It was lightly surfaced decades ago with took on the last 2 numbers of the partial VIN as shown. The pad reads: T1II5IP 61068. The T1II5IP is the assembly stamp. It shows this block was originally assembled at a L72 427/425HP(450HP) engine for a 1966 Corvette. The 61068 is the partial VIN of the Corvette this block was originally installed in. This is a very hard to find early Big Block Chevy high performance block. This is a real deal 1966 Corvette 427 4 bolt main engine block. This was recently found in a vintage 1968 Camaro drag car that was in a storage locker that was auctioned off due to back rent. It was a complete assembled shortblock that was installed in the car and never started. It was loaded with the best of part available in the 70's including aluminum rods, roller cam, etc, etc. Unfortunately, having the engine sit in storage for likely 30 plus years with no heads on it caused some corrosion in the cylinders and the engine could not be run as it was. It did still turn over and was easy to disassemble.
The block has been cleaned and inspected for cracks and damage. There are no cracks. The cylinders measure .060 overbore or 4.31 inches. The block has no sleeve or repairs. The cylinders have no ridge at the tops of the cylinders and do have pitting s mentioned earlier. Due to the pitting, I think the best plan would be to sleeve it back to standard bore for correctness. That said, these blocks are known for taking a huge overbore and boring may be an option. The externals of this block are nice with clear casting numbers. This block will need machine work and has never been blown up or cracked and will be an awesome piece when finished. These original 1966 427 blocks are becoming very hard to find. They were quite rare when new and are even harder to find today. Don't miss this original 1966 427 Big Block Chevy block as a great price.
Please don't let the price of this block fool you. There are others listed on Ebay for twice and three times what I have this block priced at. This is a nice block, not junk. I am simply being realistic with pricing so this block can end up between the fenderwells of a car rather than on a stand in my shop.
This is you chance to own the original 66 427 Big Block Chevy engine block you have been dreaming about at a great price. Don't miss out!
