    Description

Wonderful example of the rare 1914/3 overdate.  According to what is known, there were several overdate dies for this year, including some from Denver and San Francisco, however it was the die from the Philadelphia mint that was the strongest of the overdate dies, and is known as the FS-101 variety.  On this coin, ones can see the doubling of each number in the date to the left of the numerals, and within the loops of the "9".  In addition, the upper horizontal of the "3" is especially strong in this example, and along with the lower curve of the loop of the "3" to the lower right of the "4", making this coin one of the best and strongest examples I've seen, and even stronger than some of the examples shown on the PCGS website. The coin appears to be AU, and extremely near uncirculated given the condition of the horn and the end of the tail, although the obverse seems to be slightly softly struck in the middle on the hair knot. The feathers, the hair on top of the head and the face appear to show very little to no wear.  With a closer look, one can see the faint circular line running the circle around on the rim, showing further evidence of very little wear on this example.  These coins do not make it out in the public very often, especially in this condition.  For the true Indian Head Buffalo Nickel enthusiast, this coin should be seriously considered for the collection.
